RTS STRONG CUSTOMER AUTHENTICATION (SCA)

SCA is a regulatory requirement created by the EBA's RTS to reduce fraud and make online payments more secure. To accept payments and meet SCA requirements, businesses need to build additional authentication into their customer checkout flow. SCA requires authentication to use at least two of the following three elements: something the customer knows (e.g a PIN); something the customer possesses (e.g a phone); or something the customer is (e.g a fingerprint). The original SCA requirements are set out in the Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS).
