What are the key characteristics of a blockchain?

Some of the more notable characteristics of a blockchain are: its distributed nature and embedded cryptography removes the need for trusting a central party with the data; there is no need for establishing, maintaining and securing a single facility containing all the physical hardware; the stored data is practically incorruptible; regulation is unclear with blockchain technology issues; performance will generally be slower than regular databases; and, it is not as stable and mature as databases, which have existed and evolved for decades.<br/><br/>
